Kapanui School - Mārānga ā Whiti - Rise and Shine

Kia ora koutou,

We have had a couple of queries regarding the hall at Kapakapanui School where our junior classes are operating. The MOE have answered this question below as there are many schools around the country in the same situation.

Q-Are we able to have more than 100 students in our Modern Learning Environment?
A-Yes you are. Workplaces, educational facilities, and public and school transport are not considered mass gatherings. This means there are no restrictions on numbers of people indoors or outside at schools and early learning services, other than what other public health or health and safety measures require.

Q-Do we have to stop the general public from using our playgrounds?
A-No, public and school playgrounds will be open at Alert Level 2. You are not expected to regularly clean playgrounds. The greater level of freedom at Level 2 means that handwashing is even more important, including after playtimes.

Junior Classrooms Building Upgrade
The builders, and other trades, have been back on site since the beginning of Alert Level 3 and they are making expected progress. Due to losing 5 weeks during the lockdown the job is 5 weeks behind, which is the same for the roading works and everyone else who had construction work put on hold.  There will be 7 full weeks of school left before the next holidays, July 3. Barring unexpected delays with materials we expect the project to be completed in time for the beginning of term 3.

Contact Tracing Registers
As mentioned in the newsletter yesterday ideally children will come into school with their siblings and friends. We appreciate that some children may be a little anxious about this however it is a great opportunity to teach your child some new skills, independence and resilience. In reality once they are in school children move around school and playgrounds throughout the day with little issues eg at the end of lunchtime. It would be great for families to plan for both the drop off and pick up times of the day eg meet your children at a designated spot, team up with friends etc

If parents come into school we ask that you please sign one of the registers which will be in classes. This is to comply with contact tracing requirements. We acknowledge and understand that we will have new children beginning on Monday and also some younger ones who require additional support will come into school which is fine. Your support and understanding with this will make the process easier and we are all hoping for the good weather to continue!  Ultimately the less congestion and people traffic the better.

Chromebooks

Can your children please return the school chromebooks which we issued next Monday. We hope that they have been useful!

Finally, we are really looking forward to seeing your children again at school and we know that they will be excited about catching up with their mates and teachers and having the freedom to run around and play with each other. Thank you all again for your support over the lockdown period!

When we all work together and cooperate great things happen!

Ngā mihi nui
